This is the website of the Graduiertenkolleg 2638 on Normativity, Critique, Change at FU Berlin in cooperation with HU Berlin und UdK.
The new GRK 2638 seeks to study the specific structures of normative practices common to the arts, law, religion, language and morality. The GRK’s research agenda follows the hypothesis that in all these contexts, applying a norm in its full sense implies to also critically reflect upon the norm. Consequently, the realization of standards may lead to transformation.
In an academic environment that is ever more dominated by competitiveness and elbow mentality, we try to create a space that is productive for collaborative work. This entails recognition of the intersubjective nature of knowledge production and committing to a continuous reflection of hierarchies among scholars in different positions.
The GRK-Workshop "Challenging the Canon of the Arts and their Disciplines" on Dec 17th will be held by Bojana Cvejić, Professor of Dance and Dance Theory at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, and Sabeth Buchmann, Professor of Cultural Studies and the Arts at Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien.
